The Previant Law Firm, S.C. was founded in 1912 by labor law attorney Joseph Padway, a pioneer in the field. Attorney Padway played a significant role in the development of many of Wisconsin’s major labor laws and served as general counsel for the American Federation of Labor.
Following in the footsteps of Mr. Padway, our team of labor law attorneys continues to represent large and small labor unions in Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan, Illinois, and around the nation.
Over the years, we have participated in federal and state appellate court proceedings on behalf of organized labor, including cases in the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and the District of Columbia Circuit Courts of Appeals. We have won nine victories on behalf of labor unions in the U.S. Supreme Court.
Representing Unions in Wisconsin & Nationwide
Our labor lawyers have represented the Wisconsin AFL-CIO, various Teamster Joint Councils, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, and dozens of Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois, and Kentucky labor union locals in negotiation, arbitration, and litigation for contract disputes, union grievances, and bankruptcy matters.
Our labor law services include:
Public Sector Labor Law
Although these are challenging times for public sector labor unions, The Previant Law Firm, S.C. has a long history of assisting these clients. From the founding of our law firm through the present, we have worked to protect the rights of public employees to join and support labor unions. In Wisconsin, we have been a preeminent defender of the rights of public sector labor and participated in recent litigation challenging Wisconsin’s anti-collective bargaining laws. Our attorneys also have vast experience representing public sector employees, not only in Wisconsin but throughout the Midwest.
Legal Help for Union Members
Our labor lawyers provide legal advice and representation for individual union members who have been injured on the job in applying for worker's compensation or Social Security Disability. We are dedicated to working hard for the hard-working people across all industries in Wisconsin and nationwide.
