Independent Medical Examination Reimbursement
What you areowed if you have to go for an “independent” medical examination?
If you are requested by the workers’ compensation carrier to attend an examination conducted by a doctor hired by the carrier (usually called an independent medical examination), you are entitled to reimbursement of certain expenses. Before the examination, you are entitled to receive “all necessary expenses including transportation expenses.” Expenses include wage loss. If you lose time from work to attend one of these examinations, you should submit the time loss to the workers’ compensation carrier for full wage replacement. Mileage is reimbursed at 48.5 cents per mile.
