Types of repetitive motion injuries
A repetitive motion injury can affect any area of the body. When repetitive motions cause microscopic tears in a person’s body tissue, inflammation occurs. This inflammation causes pain. There are two main types of repetitive motion injury:
- Tendonitis — Tendons are white, fibrous tissues that connect muscle to bone. They allow the movement of joints throughout the body. When a tendon gets inflamed, that is known as “tendonitis.” Tendonitis usually occurs near a joint, like the elbow, knee, ankle or shoulder. Tennis elbow is a common type of tendonitis.
- Bursitis — Bursae are small sacs of synovial fluid throughout the body that cover areas where friction may develop between bones and muscles or tendons. The bursae serve to cushion and lubricate between the tendon and the bone, making normal movement painless. A healthy person has 150 bursae, and most are present at birth. When a bursa sac becomes inflamed because of repetitive motion or some other cause, bursitis occurs. The elbow, knee and hip are common bursitis sites. “Clergyman’s knee” is a classic example of bursitis.
If you suffer from a work-related repetitive motion injury, you may be entitled to compensation from your employer for your pain, suffering, medical costs and any lost wages due to rehabilitation time. Each Milwaukee injury attorney on our team has the experience and resources to investigate the cause of your injury and evaluate whether you have a viable claim.
